2 Options For Trying to Conceive a Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation

By Sandra Wilson

Some women who undergo tubal ligation will at some stage in the future wish to get pregnant. When a woman is trying to conceive following tubal ligation there are a couple of options available to her. However, whichever option a woman chooses to achieve a pregnancy after tubal ligation, there are no guarantees that they will help her to achieve her dreams.

So what are the options for a woman who is trying to conceive after undergoing the form of female sterilization known as tubal ligation? Below we look at the two main options that women have.

Option 1 - In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

This is not only a very expensive way for you to have a pregnancy after tubal ligation but you may need to undergo several treatments in order to achieve success. With this particular option, you will be required to take certain hormones which helps to increase the possibility of several eggs being released from your ovaries. There are several tests and ultrasounds along the way to check on the development of ovarian follicles. Once the eggs are developed, they are removed from the body via a needle through the vaginal wall, fertilized by sperm and allowed to mature a bit, and then implanted into the uterus through the cervix.

With this particular option the success rate is 10 to 25%. But this varies greatly and will depend on which clinic you go to for the procedure. When trying to conceive with this option, you do face a greater chance of a multiple pregnancy. Twins and triplets are not uncommon and stories of more not unheard of including the rather famous case of Octomom.

Option 2 - Tubal Ligation Reversal

Although this treatment is also costly it is not as expensive as IVF. On average, it is a few thousand less than the above option. In addition, if you are wise in your selection of doctors, the surgery can be performed on an out-patient basis.

With this procedure the surgeon will need to make an incision in order to reach the fallopian tubes where he will remove the blocked parts and then reconnect the ends that are open. In many cases the incision is quite small and usually you can return to light daily activities quickly. If you are an office worker, you can schedule surgery on a Thursday or Friday and be ready to return to work on Monday provided you are gentle with yourself.

With this option the woman will also need to refrain from trying to conceive for at least a month following the reversal procedure to allow the reconnected fallopian tubes to heal properly. Unlike IVF, there is a much greater chance of a woman becoming pregnant. Records show that around 70% of all women who have this procedure performed will become pregnant within a year. Chances depend upon your age, the type of tubal ligation, and length of the fallopian tubes left after the damage from the tubal ligation is removed. Due to this, a pregnancy after tubal ligation may be best achieved via tubal reversal.

Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation - Is Pregnancy Possible After Tubal Ligation?

By Shola Oslo

Is pregnancy after tubal ligation possible? I get asked this question many times from women who have had their fallopian tubes surgically tied, and are now looking to get pregnant with herbal remedies.

Here is my answer: If you have had a tubal ligation in the past and you've changed your mind about having children, you must have a tubal ligation reversal first. This is a complicated surgical procedure which involves a surgeon cutting away parts of the fallopian tubes that have been surgically fused together, to create a open fallopian tube.

In short, natural remedies cannot open up your fallopian tubes if you have had them surgically closed. However, they can help you increase your chances of conceiving once yours have been surgically reopened.

For example, many women who have had a tubal ligation reversal have suffered inflammation in the fallopian tubes, and excessive inflammation can lead to the formation of scar tissue and adhesions. Both adhesions and scar tissue can block the fallopian tubes, and prevent conception from taking place.

Another complication with any surgery is infection. A common cause of blocked fallopian tubes is Pelvic Inflammatory disease, which itself is caused by infection. Women who contract infections after their fallopian tube surgeries are at risk of suffering damage to the fallopian tubes.

These conditions - inflammation, infection, scarring and the formation of adhesions are all avoidable with natural herbs. Some herbs contain compounds that can speed up the healing of wounds and reduce inflammation. Many herbs have antibacterial and antiviral properties, which help to protect against infection.

You can take these herbs in two ways: orally or vaginally. Taking the herbs orally involves swallowing a capsule containing the herbs, so they reach your fallopian tubes via the digestive system and blood stream. The active ingredients are sent directly to the cells of the fallopian tubes, to speed up healing naturally.

Taking the herbs vaginally involves adding hot water, which helps the herbs to release the healthy compounds, then straining the mixture of herbs and water, and soaking a tampon in the mix. This creates a herbal tampon, which can then be inserted, and the mixture will reach the fallopian tubes via the cervix and uterus.

It is best to wait until the time your surgeon tells you your wounds will heal before using herbal tampons. In some cases, they are not needed, as the tubal ligation reversal is a success. However, if you're still trying to conceive months after having the surgery, it's time to try the natural approach.

There are other things you can do to open up your fallopian tubes and enhance the chances of pregnancy after tubal ligation reversal. One of the most popular among my clients is a Chinese Fertility Massage, which involve massaging the fallopian tubes and uterus, to stimulate healing and break up adhesions. There are also other techniques you can try, and I have outlined these in a free report, which you can download at: http://www.blockedfallopiantubes.com/pregnancy-after-tubal-ligation

Can a Woman Get Pregnant After Tubal Ligation?

Every year in the United States many women have a procedure called a tubal ligation. This is commonly referred to as having your tubes tied and involves the severing of the fallopian tubes in some way. There are several different ways of doing the procedure including cutting, cauterizing and even clipping the fallopian tubes in an effort to prevent the egg from traveling from the ovary into the uterus to be fertilized. The procedure is considered to be a permanent form of female sterilization although some women still wonder if it's possible to get pregnant after tubal ligation.

In some rare instances, accidental pregnancy after tubal ligation is certainly possible. Although the procedure is considered to be a very effective form of birth control for women, pregnancies can still occur after the fallopian tubes have been blocked. As with any type of birth control methods, there are failure rates such that pregnancy can occur in up to 2% of cases.

One way that a woman can potentially get pregnant after tubal ligation is if the doctor accidentally misses one of the fallopian tubes and doesn't close it all. The tube could also form a new opening called fistula. Finally, a process called recanalization can occur where the tubes rejoin.

While most women who have a tubal ligation do not wish to get pregnant again, there are some women who actually do want to get pregnant after having their tubes tied. For these women, the only answer they may receive from their doctor is that they can have in vitro fertilization done. However, the process of IVF is extremely expensive as it must be done cycle after cycle until the couple becomes pregnant or gives up. One cycle of IVF can be $10,000-$12,000 or more.

Another option that many women are finding to be better is called tubal reversal surgery. Having a tubal ligation reversed is definitely possible for many women depending upon their age, type of tubal ligation done and the remaining lengths of their tubes. The procedure is permanent, doesn't require monthly hormone injections and is a lot less expensive than in vitro fertilization.

For the many women who wonder how to get pregnant after tubal ligation, the options might seem limited. However, the odds of getting pregnant after a tubal reversal procedure are quite good at around 70%. Compare that to IVF which has a success rate of about 35% per cycle and you can see why so many women are opting for a reversal.
